Black hearted? Nah! Just a melodramatic dandy who wants to look tough! He is a better pirate any day- he's got the attitude and the 'heartlessness' is a sort of recommendation for the job. Over and above everything else- the guy has got language " I refuse to acquiesce your request- (means no) " Hats off to Geoffrey Rush - only he can eat an apple like that!
